Your Checklist Before You Travel
A practical step-by-step guide to help you prepare for your medical journey to Türkiye (Turkey).
- Documentation
- Valid Canadian passport (minimum 6 months validity beyond your travel dates)
- Canadian citizens do not require a visa for stays up to 90 days (confirm latest requirements at travel.gc.ca/destinations/turkiye)
- If you hold a non-Canadian passport, check visa requirements at LINK or contacting the Turkish Consulate before travel.
- Travel insurance purchased and confirmed – recommended (see our Resources page for recommended Canadian provider)
- Medical Preparation
- Medical records and photos submitted to Lunara
- Treatment plan and cost quote reviewed and confirmed
- Specialist consultation completed
- Pre-operative instructions received and fully understood
- Current medications listed and packed (enough supply for the full trip plus extra)
- Any required pre-operative tests completed
- Allergies and existing medical conditions communicated to your provider
- Travel & Logistics
- Flights booked (direct flights from Toronto to Istanbul available via Turkish Airlines and Air Transat)
- Accommodation confirmed through your provider
- Airport transfer confirmed (often included in your all-inclusive package)
- Local currency or credit card arranged for personal expenses
- Canadian dollar to Turkish Lira exchange rate checked
- Travel adapter packed (Turkey uses Type F plugs — European standard)
- Packing
- Comfortable, loose clothing packed (especially important post-procedure)
- Compression garments packed if required by your specialist
- Sunscreen and travel essentials
- Phone charger and travel adapter
- Entertainment for recovery downtime (books, tablet, headphones)
- Any specialist-recommended post-operative items
- Before You Leave Home
- Trusted person at home informed of your full itinerary and Lunara contact details
- Post-recovery arrangements made (time off work, help at home if needed)
- Follow-up schedule noted in your calendar
- Lunara coordinator contact details saved on your phone
- Government of Canada travel advisory checked (travel.gc.ca/destinations/turkiye)
